SLS is seeking an Experienced Inorganic Chemist to join our Environmental Chemistry Testing Laboratory in Melbourne. This role involves the analysis of soil, water, and air samples in a fast-paced, high-throughput laboratory environment.
We are looking for a technically skilled and detail-oriented individual to work within our Anion Testing Section. Candidates with a minimum of 2 years' relevant laboratory experience are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, your duties will include but are not limited to:
- Preparation of environmental soil and water samples
- Operation of Segmented Flow Analyser, Ion Chromatography (IC), and other analytical equipment
- Generation of accurate test results within required turnaround times
- Calibration and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Monitoring and maintaining consumables inventory
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures
- Identifying and implementing opportunities to improve productivity, quality, and safety
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in science, majoring in Chemistry or a related field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Experience working within NATA-accredited laboratory quality systems
- At least 2 years' experience using environmental laboratory instrumentation, including:
- UV-Vis Spectrophotometry
- Segmented Flow Analyser
- Ion Chromatography
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
- Strong record-keeping and data interpretation skills
- Full working rights in Australia
